Why women’s counseling is important

Common struggles women face

Life can present us with unexpected challenges that impact our mental health, potentially leading to feelings of anxiety or depression. Many women feel pressured to navigate healing on their own which can feel isolating. Having support during these difficult times is crucial. In therapy you won’t have to face these challenges alone.

  • Examining relationship dynamics, family roles, motherhood, communication styles, and issues with romantic partners or children.

  • Investigating issues of sexism in professional and personal relationships.

  • Topics concerning hormones, menstruation, menopause, fertility, pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, and sexuality.

  • Addressing trauma and shame that particularly impact women, including sexual assault, domestic violence, grief, and gender-based violence.

  • Tackling challenges associated with balancing career and family obligations and/or motherhood.

  • Discussing issues related to body image, eating disorders, self-esteem, pregnancy and societal pressures regarding appearance.

  • Exploring and helping to process mental health conditions that may uniquely affect women, such as depression, postpartum depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Even if your struggles are not listed, you can discuss more within the therapeutic relationship. If you're ready to take the first step, our therapists are taking on new clients! Not only are they all equipped with extensive training and experience, but they also possess a deep sense of empathy and a genuine commitment to supporting their clients overcome obstacles.

Our areas of focus in women’s counseling

We have many areas of focus at our practice when it comes to treatment. Here is a more in-depth look at the most common concerns we see women struggle with.

  • Our SGTG clinicians create a non-judgmental environment where a woman can openly discuss her feelings and experiences associated in any relationship. It is in these sessions where you can work with your therapist to identify patterns, build communication skills, or enhance support to help you find your person. We also are taking new clients in couples therapy if you want your partner to be included in the counseling.

  • Working with a therapist at SGTG will include healing the connection you have with yourself. The way in which we speak to ourselves has a large correlation with how we feel. Through therapy, we can help you identify negative core beliefs and work to replace them with more neutral or positive thinking. It is also a place to explore feelings about your body.

  • Your therapist will formulate a treatment plan specific to how you experience your anxiety. There are many modalities for treating anxiety that can include CBT, strengths-based therapy, exposure therapy, and more. Together, we will work to challenge maladaptive thought processes and build coping skills to manage anxiety.

Positive Client Outcomes

As a clinician, I have watched many of my female clients come to therapy feeling symptoms of anxiety and depression due to the lack of support they feel in dealing with their everyday lives. I see a handful that specifically struggle with perfectionism that manifests in their relationships or sense of self-worth. Through counseling, we are able to unpack any unresolved trauma, process emotions, and discover parts of their personalities that need tending to. A lot of my female clients express they feel like a whole person again while they receive support and connect with me on the therapeutic journey.
